Ashlie Crosson
Ashlie Crosson is a high school English teacher from central Pennsylvania. Her experiences in the classroom and around the nation have shown her that when we nurture the voices and visions of young people, we equip them to become community stewards and global citizens capable of building a better world.
The classroom
Belonging and rigor go hand-in-hand
A first-generation college graduate with degrees from Susquehanna University and Penn State University, Ashlie aspires to help every student see their upbringing not as a limitation, but as a foundation.
This was the gift given to her not just by her teachers, but by her own family’s commitment to education. As the great-granddaughter of a cafeteria worker, the granddaughter of an administrative secretary and school custodian, and daughter of a paraprofessional, Ashlie knows a student’s success is fostered by a village of champions.
Now in her sixteenth year in the classroom, she teaches at Mifflin County High School, a Title I school in rural Pennsylvania. By fostering strong community partnerships, emphasizing “glocal” connections, and designing dynamic instruction that responds to contemporary issues, Ashlie’s students find pride in their small-town backgrounds, power in their personal voices, and a place of purpose in the world around them.
A Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellow, Ashlie advocates for weaving global competencies and experiential learning into every content area to ensure all students feel confident and prepared to engage the responsibilities and challenges of being a leader and learner in today’s society.

Ashlie champions a human-centered approach to education that nurtures consistent growth and high achievement. She believes everyone in school- adults and young people alike- can become genuine lifelong learners when our systems of learning enable us to practice mutual empathy, celebrate process over perfection, and support the wellbeing of both students and teachers.

Authentic, sustainable teaching practices
Through her keynotes, advocacy work, and field experiences, Ashlie works to empower educators to find resiliency through authenticity. She reminds fellow teachers that to build transformative, inspiring learning communities, we must “practice what we teach” — giving ourselves the same grace, authenticity, and room to grow that we offer our students as we cultivate the next generation of compassionate world citizens.
